In this chapter, Marco's gamble with Fawkes pays off at the very last moment, as the Bonanzos' promising young marksman falls into our hero's own trap and the mission ends in success... that is, until a sudden encounter with Uncle Wilfred on the way back home, which threatens to undo all of Gracie's aspirations.
In the end, though, wisdom wins over cruelty and harshness, and Marco even seems to gain a new friend through his generosity and politeness.
